MANAGING DIRECTOR, MADRONA

Tim joined Madrona in 2006 and invests in B2B software companies in the Pacific Northwest. He is interested up and down the software stack including both intelligent AI applications as well as software infrastructure including AI services, data management, cybersecurity, and developer tools.  Tim has led over 35 investments for Madrona.  Representative current investments and board seats include Highspot, Echodyne, Eclypsium, Esper.io, NewDays AI, Outbound AI, Ravenna, Spice AI, and Uplevel.  Other current investments that Tim helped lead for Madrona include RunwayML, Stacklok, Clarify AI, Dropzone AI, and Hyperparam.  Past investments have led to many successful outcomes for Madrona including Jama Software (acquired by Francisco Partners), Hepatic (acquired by VMWare), Lexion (acquired by Docusign), Numbers Station (acquired by Alation), Saykara (acquired by Nuance), Lattice Data (acquired), and buuteeq (acquired by Priceline). 

Before joining Madrona, Tim was a key member of Microsoft’s corporate development group, where he shared responsibilities for sourcing, structuring, and negotiating Microsoft’s acquisitions, strategic investments, and joint ventures. While at Microsoft, Tim focused on enterprise software, security, and mobile closing 14 transactions for over $850 million. Earlier in his career, Tim worked nearly five years for broadband satellite startup Teledesic, spending his last year there also working for Craig McCaw’s Eagle River Investments.

Tim is also on the boards of Global Partnerships and the Washington Technology Alliance.  He graduated from MIT with a BS in Mechanical Engineering and Minor in Economics, and an MBA from Stanford Graduate School of Business.
